Ex-Arsenal midfielder Stewart Robson has entered the discussion on Europe’s top strikers, placing Liverpool‘s Alexander Isak ahead of Victor Osimhen in his rankings.
In a tightly contested UEFA Champions League match, Galatasaray edged out Premier League powerhouse Liverpool with a 1-0 win in Istanbul.
Victor Osimhen showcased his exceptional talent on Tuesday by netting the winning goal for Galatasaray in their intense clash against Liverpool.
The Nigerian forward was heavily linked with multiple Premier League sides during the recent transfer window, Liverpool included.
Despite the buzz around Osimhen, Liverpool ultimately opted to secure Alexander Isak’s signature instead of pursuing the former African Footballer of the Year.
Robson’s Take on the Isak vs. Osimhen Debate
Following Galatasaray’s triumph over Liverpool, Robson commended Osimhen’s comprehensive skill set and expressed surprise that the Nigerian striker isn’t already spearheading the attack for a top European club.
“Several elite teams missed the opportunity to sign him,” Robson remarked during his appearance on ESPN FC.
“Tonight, he demonstrated excellent spatial awareness, constantly drifting away from Van Dijk’s coverage. His ability to hold the ball with his back to goal and remain a persistent threat was impressive.”
“He may have converted a penalty, but make no mistake, he’s a top-tier talent. His blend of stamina, speed, physicality, and aerial ability makes him a formidable striker.”
When directly contrasting Osimhen with Isak, Robson suggested the Swedish forward holds a marginal advantage.
“Between the two, Isak just edges it slightly, but Osimhen is certainly not far behind,” Robson added.
This season, Osimhen has already found the net three times in five appearances for Galatasaray, maintaining the momentum from his previous campaign.
