Win or be sacked – Nottingham Forest considering sacking Postecoglou after just 24 days in charge

Nottingham Forest are considering letting new manager Ange Postecoglou leave after a poor start to his reign.

The pressure mounted on the Australian coach following Thursday’s Europa League home defeat to Midtjylland, a match witnessed by owner Evangelos Marinakis.

The loss marked Forest’s sixth consecutive game without a win, prompting the home crowd to turn on Postecoglou, who was only appointed on September 9.

Chants of “You’re getting sacked in the morning” were heard, along with songs for former manager Nuno Espírito Santo, who was dismissed by Forest just last month and is now at West Ham.

Postecoglou’s position in jeopardy

The club has issued an ultimatum to the former Tottenham manager: win against Newcastle on Sunday or face the consequences, as reported by Daily Mail.

Forest face a crucial Premier League trip to Newcastle on Sunday before a two-week international break. Postecoglou is in desperate need of a victory at St. James’ Park, which would be the club’s first in any competition since the opening day of the season.

Postecoglou was let go by Tottenham despite guiding them to the Europa League title last season, as the club’s 17th-place Premier League finish was deemed unacceptable by the Spurs hierarchy.

Upon his hiring at Forest, the 60-year-old’s primary objective was to secure a second consecutive Europa League title. This would guarantee a spot in next season’s Champions League, offering the fastest route to achieving Marinakis’s ambitious goals.

While that target is still mathematically possible with only two rounds of the eight-match group stage played, Forest’s performances have largely fallen short of expectations.

Aside from the first half at Real Betis and portions of the 1-1 draw at Burnley, the team has underwhelmed.

Depending on other results, they could find themselves in the bottom three by the end of the weekend.
