The judge has delivered the final ruling in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ sentencing hearing held today in the United States.
Following his conviction in July on two counts related to transporting individuals for prostitution, Combs appeared in court to receive his sentence.
Presiding Judge Arun Subramanian stated there was no justification to stray from the established sentencing guidelines, which recommend a prison term ranging from nearly six years to just over seven years.
While prosecutors advocated for a sentence exceeding 11 years, the defense argued for a maximum of 14 months behind bars.
In a last-ditch effort, Combs’ attorneys presented a documentary-style video highlighting his philanthropic efforts and family life, accompanied by a heartfelt letter from Combs himself.
These materials contrasted sharply with the defense’s persistent claim of innocence and allegations of government targeting. Before the judge announced the sentence, Combs made an emotional address in court.
He opened by acknowledging the immense challenge of remaining silent throughout the trial and expressed regret for not showing remorse sooner.
Combs extended apologies to Cassie Ventura and her family, to a woman he referred to as Jane, and to all survivors of domestic abuse, recognizing that a disturbing video had reopened painful wounds for many.
He confessed to struggling with substance abuse, admitting he needed help but failed to seek it, despite understanding better through the moral guidance of his faith.
Reflecting on his personal decline, Combs described himself not as a larger-than-life celebrity but as a flawed individual who lost his freedom, his enterprises, and precious time with his mother and children.
Fighting back tears, he expressed deep self-loathing for the pain he caused and offered a sincere apology to his seven children and mother, acknowledging they deserved far more from him.
He also voiced remorse to his community, admitting he had disappointed them. “I am not this terrible person,” he insisted, affirming that people are capable of transformation and that he has changed.

The court sentenced Diddy to 50 months of imprisonment.
During sentencing, the judge characterized Combs’ conduct as a form of domination, underscoring the enduring damage inflicted upon the women involved.
“These crimes caused irreversible harm to two women,” the judge remarked. “You supplied them with drugs. Why did this continue for so long? You had the influence and means to stop it. You were more than just a client.”
The judge emphasized the necessity of a firm sentence to prevent similar future offenses. He pointed out that even after Cassie Ventura’s civil lawsuit, the emergence of a damaging video, and the initiation of a federal probe, Combs continued to engage in violent behavior, including a severe hotel altercation with “Jane,” during which he struck her in the head.
Referencing Jane’s testimony, the judge detailed how Combs coerced her into taking medication and performing sexual acts against her will, expressing doubt that such conduct would not recur.
The judge also cited explicit language Combs used with women during the proceedings. Although acknowledging Combs’ participation in rehabilitation programs while detained, the judge concluded that the severity of the trial evidence and the pattern of abuse outweighed these efforts.
He declined the prosecution’s request for a sentence exceeding 11 years, deeming it excessive.
Simultaneously, he rejected the defense’s plea for a 14-month sentence or time served, considering it insufficient.
“Sentencing data shows a broad range of outcomes,” the judge explained. “After considering all pertinent factors, the Court finds that a 50-month prison term is appropriate.”
