Onuachu shows Eric Chelle why he was wrong to snub him by winning Turkish League award

Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu has been rewarded for his performance this season with his club Trabzonspor.

The Super Eagles star has been in sensational form since joining from Southampton during the summer transfer window.

Despite his form, he has been overlooked by national team coach Eric Chelle for the upcoming Super Eagles squad.

However, that did not stop him from winning the Turkish Super Lig’s Goal of the Month award for August.

Onuachu received his award before Trabzonspor’s match against Kayserispor on Friday, as reported on X by Onedio.

He celebrated the honour by contributing a goal and an assist in a dominant 4-0 victory for the Black Sea Storm.

On August 31, Onuachu scored Trabzonspor’s only goal in a 1-1 draw against Samsunspor in the Turkish League.

He launched himself at a cross from Oleksandr Zubkov, directing a powerful header past goalkeeper Okan Kocuk.

Since then, the Nigerian international has been scoring for fun. His impressive strike in Trabzonspor’s 4-3 victory over Karagumruk last week drew significant attention, but it was a goal from August that earned him the award.

The 30-year-old forward has already scored six goals in eight appearances, placing him at the top of the league’s goalscoring charts, one ahead of Galatasaray’s Mauro Icardi.
