Despite an impressive run this season, Paul Onuachu was notably absent from coach Eric Chelle‘s latest Super Eagles squad selection…
Paul Onuachu, the prolific Super Eagles forward, has been honored with the Turkish Super Lig’s Best Goal award for August, according to Soccernet.ng.
Since his summer transfer from Southampton to Trabzonspor, Onuachu has been in exceptional form, quickly becoming a key figure for his new club.
The 30-year-old striker has netted six goals in just eight matches, currently topping the scoring charts in Turkey, edging out Galatasaray’s Mauro Icardi by a single goal.

Onuachu’s goal-scoring prowess isn’t just about quantity; the quality and flair of his finishes have caught widespread attention.
In a thrilling 4-3 victory over Karagumruk last week, he delivered a stunning strike that captivated fans and pundits alike. However, his remarkable August goal remains a standout moment.
On August 31, facing Samsunspor, Onuachu scored the decisive goal in a 1-1 draw. Despite his imposing stature, he showcased agility and precision by leaping to meet a cross from Oleksandr Zubkov, powering a header past goalkeeper Okan Kocuk.

This spectacular goal was officially recognized as the Turkish Super Lig’s Goal of the Month for August, announced just before Trabzonspor’s match against Kayserispor.

Following this accolade, Onuachu continued his impressive run by assisting and scoring in Trabzonspor’s commanding 4-0 triumph over Kayserispor.
When Will Coach Eric Chelle Recall Paul Onuachu?
Despite being the top Nigerian striker in Europe at present, Onuachu was surprisingly left out of Eric Chelle’s 23-man roster for the upcoming fixtures against Lesotho and Benin.

Meanwhile, forwards such as Akor Adams and Cyriel Dessers, who are still finding their footing at club level, were included in the squad.
Chelle’s exclusion of Onuachu has sparked debate, with many questioning the rationale behind overlooking a striker in such prolific form. The former Southampton player may well be left pondering what more he must achieve to earn a recall.
To date, Onuachu has scored three goals in 23 appearances for the Super Eagles, with his last outing coming in June 2024 during a World Cup qualifier against Benin Republic.
