Akor Adams and Paul Onuachu were the stars on a weekend Victor Osimhen struggled to receive public love.
Nigerian stars plying their trade away from home were in action for their respective clubs across the weekend.
Akor Adams and Onuachu shine as Osimhen struggles
Last weekend marked the final game week before the October international break, offering Nigerian fans a glimpse of what to look out for when the Super Eagles return to action this week.
However, it was a weekend of mixed performances from Nigerian players. Starting in Spain, Akor Adams was on target in back-to-back games as he scored in Sevilla’s 4-1 demolition of Barcelona.
Adams had scored the winner for Sevilla in their 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano before putting the icing on the cake in the victory over Barcelona.
The 25-year-old finished off a simple finish after he was set up by his countryman, Chidera Ejuke.
Meanwhile, in Germany, Victor Boniface and Felix Agu both featured as Werder Bremen secured a 1-0 win away at St. Pauli.
Boniface came on in the final ten minutes of the game, while Agu had to be taken off due to an injury, which has now put him in doubt for Nigeria’s qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin.
In Turkey, Onuachu continued his fine form as he scored and provided an assist in Trabzonspor’s 4-0 win over Kayerispor on Friday night.
Onuachu’s goal takes his tally to six in the league this season, more than anyone in the Turkish top-flight, including Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen had a weekend to forget as he fired blanks in Galatasaray’s 1-1 draw against Besiktas on Saturday evening.
The Nigerian international received criticism for getting into a scuffle with Turkey’s Emirhan Topcu during the match.
Osimhen’s Super Eagles teammate Wilfried Ndidi also played in the game. Ndidi was in action for most of the game for Besiktas before he was taken off due to cramp.
In Italy, Ademola Lookman’s reintegration continued as he played 73 minutes in Atalanta’s 1-1 draw against Como. It was Lookman’s second league game of the season for La Dea.
Meanwhile, Gift Orban was in action for 90 minutes but could not help Hellas Verona avoid a 1-0 home defeat to Sassuolo.
Chukwueze’s cameo not enough for Fulham
In England, Samuel Chukwueze came on to provide the assist for Fulham’s opener, but it was not enough as Marco Silva’s men suffered a 3-1 loss at Bournemouth.
Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey also played in that game for Fulham, with Iwobi equalling Shola Ameobi’s record as the Nigerian with the most appearances in Premier League history.
At the Molineux, Tolu Arokodare saw just one minute of action as Wolves played a 1-1 draw against Brighton.
In France, Terem Moffi played 38 minutes as Nice held Monaco to a 2-2 draw away from home on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Moses Simon played 86 minutes as Paris FC beat Lorient 2-0 in their clash at the French capital.
