John Mikel Obi, former Chelsea and Super Eagles midfielder, has lauded Moises Caicedo following his remarkable display in Chelsea’s victory over Liverpool, according to Soccernet.ng.
After bouncing back from a 1-3 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion the previous week, Enzo Maresca‘s squad hosted last season’s Premier League champions, Liverpool, at Stamford Bridge.
The opening ten minutes saw both sides testing each other with several attempts, but it was Caicedo who broke the deadlock in the 17th minute, firing a powerful shot past Giorgi Mamardashvili.

In the second half, Cody Gakpo managed to level the score, but Chelsea clinched the win with a dramatic 95th-minute goal from Willian Estevao, securing all three points.
This victory propelled Chelsea to within five points of the Premier League summit as the October international break approached. However, it was Caicedo’s outstanding contribution that truly impressed Mikel.
“At this moment, no midfielder offers what Caicedo brings to Chelsea. His performance is simply outstanding,” the former UEFA Champions League winner remarked on the Obi One Podcast.

“He excels at disrupting opposition plays and initiating attacks. Always the first to the ball, aggressive, and a natural leader on the pitch. He’s a well-rounded footballer.
“Now, he’s also contributing goals and taking shots from distance. He’s proven to be worth every penny Chelsea invested in him.”

Mikel also drew parallels between Caicedo and the 2018 World Cup winner N’Golo Kanté, highlighting their similarities and differences.
“Is Caicedo on the same level as Kanté? N’Golo was in a league of his own,” Mikel reflected.
“I admire both players. Kanté’s speed and ability to escape tight situations were exceptional, and his stamina was unmatched. Caicedo matches that intensity and endurance.
“Honestly, they’re quite comparable. Choosing between them is a difficult decision,” added the two-time Premier League champion.

Looking ahead, Chelsea will travel to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest once the international break concludes.
