Rodrygo Opens Up About Nearly Signing with Barcelona
Rodrygo, the talented winger for Real Madrid, recently disclosed that he was on the verge of joining Barcelona and had even reached a preliminary agreement with the Catalan giants. Despite this, he expressed his satisfaction with ultimately choosing Real Madrid, the club he has long admired and dreamed of representing.
Rodrygo’s Perspective
In an exclusive conversation with AS editor-in-chief Tomás Roncero, Rodrygo recounted how close he was to committing to Barcelona before Real Madrid entered the picture with an offer he couldn’t refuse. Without hesitation, he decided to join the 15-time Champions League winners.
“Everything was practically finalized with Barcelona before Real Madrid came knocking,” he shared. “But when my father asked me to make a choice, it was clear what I wanted. I knew my dream, and that’s exactly what happened.”

Rodrygo also mentioned that had Real Madrid’s offer not materialized, he would have proceeded with Barcelona. When asked if he felt fortunate to have chosen Los Blancos instead, he responded:
“Definitely. I was playing well at Santos when Barcelona showed interest-a club I hold in high regard. But my heart was set on Real Madrid from the start. I respect all teams, and Barcelona is undoubtedly a prestigious club.”
“I was eager to make a decision, so I told my father we should wait a little longer. After a short wait, Madrid’s proposal arrived.”
