Bukola Olopade, serving as the Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), joined local leaders and residents of Egbaland in celebrating the 82nd birthday of the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Michael Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Okukenu IV. Central to the celebrations was a table tennis tournament held in honor of the revered monarch.
In a message delivered by his spokesperson, Kola Daniel, Olopade commended the Alake’s profound influence and steadfast commitment to advancing sports and encouraging community development. “Celebrating this milestone with our distinguished leader is truly an honor. Kabiyesi embodies exemplary leadership, honor, and respect,” Olopade stated.
He added, “This competition is a testament to His Majesty’s belief in the unifying power of sports to foster social harmony. I extend my sincere congratulations to the Alake and all members of the Egbaland community.”
Spanning from October 6th through 10th, the week-long event featured various contests including men’s and women’s singles, men’s doubles, and veteran categories. The tournament drew enthusiastic competitors, reflecting the thriving sports environment cultivated in Egbaland under the Alake’s visionary leadership. The finale was marked by vibrant cultural displays and a shared spirit of togetherness, underscoring the Alake’s essential role in connecting generations and reinforcing community bonds.
