Former Nigerian international Friday Ekpo has emphasized the importance of the Super Eagles maintaining sharp focus and relentless energy as they prepare for the decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff encounters, warning against any sluggishness at the start of these crucial matches.
After securing their spot in the playoffs with a commanding 4-0 victory over Benin Republic on the final day of qualifiers, the Super Eagles finished second in Group C, earning their place among the top runners-up advancing to the next stage.
The playoff round will see the leading second-placed teams from the African qualifiers face off in a knockout format, featuring semifinals followed by a final. The team that emerges victorious will move on to the FIFA Inter-Confederation Playoff, competing for Africa’s potential tenth berth at the World Cup.
These critical matches are scheduled to be held in Morocco from November 10 through 18.

Ekpo highlighted the critical need for Nigeria to start these playoff games with intensity and maintain that momentum to ensure their passage to the global stage.
“In the playoffs, the Super Eagles must deliver their highest level of performance right from kickoff and steer clear of any slow beginnings. I’m hopeful for their success,” he concluded.
