Joshua Zirkzee evaluates his career path amid interest from Roma and Como, both keen on the Manchester United forward.
Joshua Zirkzee, currently with Manchester United, is reportedly contemplating a transfer to gain more regular first-team action after being left out of the latest Netherlands squad.
The Dutch-Nigerian forward joined Manchester United from Bologna in the summer of 2024. However, a mix of injuries and inconsistent form has hindered his ability to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup.
Uncertainty clouds Zirkzee’s role at Manchester United
Manchester United strengthened their attacking ranks in the recent transfer window by bringing in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbuemo, and Benjamin Sesko, increasing competition and further limiting Zirkzee’s opportunities to feature regularly.
To date this season, Zirkzee has yet to be named in the starting eleven for a Premier League fixture, clocking only 83 minutes over three substitute appearances. His omission from the Netherlands squad during the recent international break was explained by coach Ronald Koeman, who cited his limited game time at United as a key factor.
Koeman commented, “Both Brobbey and Zirkzee have struggled to find consistent playing time, partly due to injuries and transfers. Should their minutes increase, they will remain in our plans, but we are also considering alternative options,” according to One Football.
Transfer prospects emerge as World Cup approaches
With the World Cup fast approaching, the 24-year-old striker is at a pivotal juncture to rejuvenate his career. Reports from The Times reveal that Serie A outfits Roma and Como have expressed interest in signing Zirkzee, potentially making a move during the January transfer window.
