Introducing Joy Omewa

Born on December 1, 2002, Joy Omewa Ogochukwu has been making significant strides in Denmark’s top-flight women’s league, the Kvindeligaen, representing Fortuna Hjørring.

Her professional journey began with Nigeria’s Confluence Queens before she moved to Danish side B.93 in Østerbro in April 2021, a transfer facilitated through a partnership between the two clubs.

Omewa debuted on April 3, 2021, in a narrow 0-1 defeat to AaB. During her stint at B.93, she appeared in nine games and scored three goals.

Later that year, in November 2021, she advanced to Fortuna Hjørring, Denmark’s premier women’s football club, marking a pivotal moment in her career progression.

The 2024-25 season was a breakthrough period for Omewa, as she distinguished herself with an impressive tally of 14 goals and four assists in 17 league appearances by mid-April, becoming a vital asset for Fortuna.

Her efforts played a crucial role in Fortuna Hjørring clinching both the Danish Women’s League title and the Women’s Cup during the 2024-25 campaign.

In recognition of her outstanding performances, Omewa was honored with the Player of the Season award in the Danish Women’s League on June 13, 2025, underscoring her emergence as one of the league’s elite players.

On the international front, Omewa has represented Nigeria at the U-17 and U-20 levels, showcasing her potential to become a regular fixture in the senior Super Falcons squad.

A Season Marked by Remarkable Statistics

Currently, Omewa boasts an impressive record of 13 goals in 15 appearances for Fortuna Hjørring this season, highlighting her consistent threat in front of goal.

This scoring form builds on an exceptional previous season where she found the net 22 times in 24 matches across all competitions, consistently troubling opposition defenses.

For the upcoming qualifiers, Omewa will be part of a formidable attacking lineup that includes seasoned stars such as Asisat Oshoala and Rasheedat Ajibade, promising an exciting offensive front for the Super Falcons.
