Fulham‘s Alex Iwobi has etched his name into Premier League history following the recent clash with his former club, Arsenal.
Despite Fulham’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Saturday night, Iwobi, who has consistently been a standout performer this season, was included in the starting eleven.
The Nigerian international found it tough to influence the outcome against Mikel Arteta’s side, as Arsenal’s proficiency from set-pieces secured them a slender victory.
Nonetheless, even in defeat, Iwobi achieved a remarkable milestone that cements his legacy in the Premier League.
Iwobi’s Historic Achievement
By featuring in the match against Arsenal, Alex Iwobi has now become the Nigerian footballer with the highest number of Premier League appearances.
Data from the official Premier League website confirms that Iwobi has reached 299 top-flight appearances, making him the most capped Nigerian player in the league’s history.

He has now overtaken former Super Eagles forward Shola Ameobi, who previously held the record with 298 Premier League matches.
Additionally, Iwobi has surpassed other Nigerian greats such as Kanu Nwankwo (273 appearances), Yakubu Aiyegbeni (252), and John Obi Mikel (249) in terms of league appearances.

As Fulham prepare to face Newcastle next weekend, Iwobi is poised to reach the milestone of 300 Premier League appearances and continue extending his record.
On the international stage, the midfielder recently played a pivotal role in securing Nigeria’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs during the latest international fixtures.
