Arokodare Shines in Sunderland Victory as Wolves’ Winless Streak Drags On

Sunderland maintained their strong early-season form by securing a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers as Premier League action resumed after the international break.

Wolves entered this fixture still searching for their inaugural win of the campaign, hoping also to keep a clean sheet for the first time this season.

Unfortunately for Wolves, their struggles persisted as they suffered their sixth defeat of the season at the Stadium of Light, falling 2-0 to Sunderland.

Match Recap

Sunderland made two adjustments to their lineup from the squad that lost 2-0 to Manchester United before the break.

Wolves also rotated their team, making two changes from the side that drew 1-1 with Brighton. Despite Tolu Arokodare‘s recent heroics helping Nigeria secure a World Cup playoff spot, he started on the bench, with Strand Larsen leading the attack.

The hosts began the match with high energy and initially had a goal disallowed. However, in the 16th minute, Nordi Mukiele capitalized on a slick one-two exchange with Trai Hume to open the scoring for Sunderland.

In the second half, Wolves struggled to mount a comeback as Sunderland maintained their advantage. Arokodare was introduced in the 76th minute but was unable to influence the outcome. Instead, Sunderland doubled their lead due to an unfortunate own goal by Ladislav Krejci.

From that point on, Sunderland controlled the tempo and secured the win, deepening Wolves’ woes as they remain without a victory this season.
