Ex-Turkey International Slams Besiktas: “Passing on Paul Onuachu for Tammy Abraham Was a Massive Blunder!

Paul Onuachu once again found the net as Trabzonspor secured a win against Rizespor last Saturday.

Sinan Engin, a former Turkish international, voiced his opinion that Paul Onuachu would have been a smarter acquisition for Besiktas than Tammy Abraham, according to Soccernet.ng.

Since transferring from Southampton to Trabzonspor in the summer, Onuachu has consistently showcased his striking abilities and goal-scoring talent.

He has netted seven goals in just nine matches for the Black Sea Storm, with each goal playing a crucial role in securing at least a draw or victory for his side.

Currently, Trabzonspor holds the second spot in the league standings, trailing the leaders Galatasaray by five points, positioning themselves as the main contenders to dethrone the reigning champions this season.

In contrast, Besiktas has faced challenges in maintaining form, sitting sixth in the Super Lig with 13 points from eight fixtures. Their recent 2-1 defeat to newly promoted Gençlerbirliği underscored their ongoing struggles.

This underwhelming performance is surprising, especially given the club’s hefty investment of over 30 million euros during the summer transfer window.

Among the marquee signings was English forward Tammy Abraham, who has yet to fully meet expectations, scoring three goals in eight appearances for Besiktas.

Sinan Engin’s Perspective on Onuachu’s Influence

Sinan Engin, a former Turkish national team midfielder, has openly criticized Abraham’s impact this season, highlighting Onuachu’s superior form.

“Besiktas had a solid squad last year, so why invest heavily in new players?” Engin remarked during an interview with Beyaz Futbol.

“They should have maintained their core lineup and only brought in a striker-not Abraham, but someone like Onuachu.”

Leading the scoring charts in Turkey, Onuachu is eager to sustain his prolific streak with Trabzonspor. Additionally, he hopes his stellar performances will soon earn him a recall to the Nigerian Super Eagles squad.
