Nottingham Forest‘s search for a new head coach continues after talks with Roberto Mancini reportedly broke down
Roberto Mancini, the former manager of Italy’s national team and Manchester City, has turned down Nottingham Forest’s offer, ending speculation that he would take over the reins at the club featuring Nigerian talents Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, negotiations between Forest and Mancini collapsed after a day of discussions.
Mancini declines Nottingham Forest managerial position
Fabrizio Romano announced on X, “After 24 hours of talks, Roberto Mancini will not be assuming the Nottingham Forest manager role at this stage. Despite ongoing negotiations, no consensus was reached.”
Nottingham Forest had identified Mancini as their leading candidate to replace Ange Postecoglou, who was relieved of his duties following a heavy 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.
Postecoglou’s spell was cut short after failing to register a single victory in eight Premier League outings, prompting Forest to search for their third manager before November.
Mancini’s distinguished career made him an attractive prospect for the club fighting to avoid relegation. The 60-year-old Italian guided Manchester City to FA Cup success in 2011 and secured their first-ever Premier League title the following season.
He further cemented his legacy by leading Italy to victory at the Euro 2020 championship, earning widespread acclaim as one of Europe’s elite coaches.
Managerial instability persists at Nottingham Forest
Despite hopes that Mancini’s extensive expertise would stabilize a struggling Forest side near the relegation zone, his decision to decline leaves the club urgently pursuing alternative options.

Postecoglou’s brief tenure ended amid mounting frustration from fans, who voiced their displeasure with chants of “sacked in the morning,” creating a tense atmosphere at the City Ground. His 39-day reign ranks among the shortest in Premier League history.
Reports suggest that former Burnley manager Sean Dyche has been approached as a potential successor, although no official agreement has been announced.
