Joel Embiid, the star center for the Philadelphia 76ers, made a highly anticipated comeback in a preseason game versus the Minnesota Timberwolves after being sidelined for eight months.
This milestone is crucial as the 76ers gear up for their 2025-26 NBA season kickoff.
Embiid’s absence began on February 22nd following a contest against the Brooklyn Nets, when he underwent arthroscopic surgery to address persistent issues with his left knee.
After an intense rehabilitation and conditioning period, Embiid demonstrated a promising return to form. He logged 18 minutes and 35 seconds on the court, contributing 14 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals, shooting efficiently at 50% from the field (5-for-10).

Reflecting on his comeback, Embiid shared a positive outlook, emphasizing his focus on the present rather than dwelling on previous setbacks.
“I’m not dwelling on what happened before,” Embiid remarked. “Mentally and physically, I feel stronger than ever.”
“Just holding the basketball and being back in the game I cherish is an amazing feeling.”
Last season, Embiid’s court time was limited to only 19 games. Despite averaging 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists, he was unable to reach the MVP-caliber dominance he displayed in previous years when competing with Nikola Jokic.
On Friday, however, Embiid appeared revitalized and closer to his peak performance. Provided he stays healthy, he is expected to be fully ready for the season opener against Boston next week.
