Nenadi Usman Labour Party” border=”0″ /> Under the leadership of Nenadi Usman, the Labour Party (LP) has urgently demanded the arrest of May Agbamuche-Mbu, the Acting Chairperson of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The party accuses her of unlawfully collaborating with Julius Abure, an alliance they argue threatens the foundation of Nigeria’s democracy.
In a statement titled “Call for Immediate Arrest Over INEC Acting Chair’s Illegal Collaboration with Julius Abure Based on a Fraudulent Court Order,” issued by Interim National Spokesperson Toni Akeni in Abuja on Thursday, the LP condemned what it describes as a calculated attack on the country’s electoral integrity, allegedly orchestrated by Agbamuche-Mbu in partnership with Abure.
Akeni criticized the acting INEC chair’s decision to include Abure in a recent meeting with delegates from the 18 registered political parties, despite a standing Supreme Court ruling. He characterized this move as irresponsible and harmful to Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
The statement notes that Agbamuche-Mbu defended her actions by claiming INEC was acting under a court order and that the commission would honor any valid judgment presented by the faction led by Senator Nenadi Usman.
However, the Labour Party’s independent inquiry found no evidence supporting the existence of such a judicial directive.
While acknowledging that Abure filed a lawsuit against INEC (Suit No: CV/1914/2025) before Hon. Justice Kayode Agunloye at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Gwagwalada, the party’s formal request for a Certified True Copy (CTC) of any court order recognizing Abure as Chairman was firmly rejected by the court, confirming no such order exists.
The LP’s declaration further demands that Agbamuche-Mbu make public the alleged court order she claims validates Abure’s recognition by INEC.
