A Nigerian host and entertainer, Israel Olasunmade, popularly known as MC Izhybee, says he is living his dream in the United Kingdom as he prepares to host a major end-of-year party in Bangor, Wales.
In an interview with our correspondent, the entertainer said he began his MC journey in 2010, hosting children’s birthday parties at his church and in his neighbourhood, before launching it professionally in 2016.
He said, “I started my MC back in 2010, anchoring children’s birthday parties in my church and my neighbourhood, but eventually started it professionally in 2016 when I won the second runner-up in the comedy category at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Kabba. I have hosted several events during my university days, ranging from social nights, MTN Campus Rave 2013 at OOU, praise nights in church, and many more.
“I got married and relocated to the United Kingdom in 2023, where I have been able to make my name known in the entertainment industry in Manchester and its environs, having hosted several social events, weddings, and corporate events across cities in the UK. My most recent one was in Manchester, which featured DJ Enimoney from YBNL Nigeria.”
Olasunmade said his multilingual ability, speaking English, Igbo, Yoruba, Ondo, Egba, and Ijebu fluently, has given him an edge with diverse audiences. He said he is currently learning Hindi and “a bit of Pakistani.”
The host added that performing abroad has offered a refreshing level of respect for entertainers.
“One of the beautiful things about being an MC out here is that you are treated like the professional you are. No one talks down on your craft, unlike back home,” he said.
Olasunmade stated that he is set to host an end-of-year party for Nigerians living in Bangor, Wales, in December.
He disclosed that the upcoming event was aimed at entertaining the large Nigerian community in the area.
“I will be hosting an event in Bangor, Wales, in December, which is tagged the Bangor End-of-Year Party, as there is a large Nigerian community over there with low social life. This is what I have always wanted to do all my life.
“I’m glad I’m living my dream. As a graduate of Mass Communication at OOU in 2015, public speaking has always come easily to me, and my deep roots in theatre and entertainment make it easy for me to engage the audience with stories.
“One of the beautiful things I discovered on the international level is that the non-African audience loves African stories and culture. This makes it easy for me to showcase the beauty of our culture and all,” he said.
