Kishane Thompson: Just Getting Started Despite Back-to-Back Silver Medals and Near Misses on the World Stage

Although Kishane Thompson has yet to secure his inaugural global gold medal, he maintains unwavering faith in his talent and is certain that his breakthrough is imminent.

Jamaica’s reigning 100m champion, Kishane Thompson, remains undeterred by his near misses on the world stage, having finished second at both the Olympics and World Championships in successive events.

This year, Thompson clocked the fastest 100m time globally with a remarkable 9.75 seconds, a feat he achieved while clinching the Jamaican national title in July. However, he was unable to replicate this peak performance at the recent World Athletics Championships held in Tokyo.

At the Tokyo championships, Thompson once again finished as the runner-up, this time behind fellow Jamaican Oblique Seville, who set a new personal record of 9.79 seconds to claim Jamaica’s first 100m world title in ten years since Usain Bolt.

This marks Thompson’s second straight silver medal at a major global event, having also finished behind his American rival Noah Lyles at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Despite the absence of a gold medal in his collection, Thompson’s self-belief remains unshaken, confident that his moment to shine at the very top is on the horizon.

Reflecting on his performance in Tokyo, Thompson shared on social media, “I’m just getting started; the best is yet to come.”

While the elusive gold medal has so far slipped through his fingers, Thompson’s steady presence on the podium over the last three years underscores his status as a formidable contender in men’s sprinting. It’s only a matter of time before he captures the crowning achievement that has so far evaded his promising career.
