On Wednesday, Paxton announced the apprehension of eight individuals linked to Maria Rojas, a midwife in Texas facing charges for performing illegal abortions. Earlier this year, Rojas became the inaugural person prosecuted under Texas’s rigorous abortion laws, confronting three charges related to abortion procedures and twelve counts of unauthorized medical practice. The recent arrests pertain to those implicated in practicing medicine without a license in connection with Rojas, who operated three clinics across the Houston metropolitan region, according to the attorney general’s office.
