Iwobi Defends Chukwueze: “Underrated Star Ready to Shine Bright Again at Fulham

Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi expressed optimism that his fellow Nigerian and new Fulham recruit Samuel Chukwueze will soon rediscover his confidence and form while competing at Craven Cottage.

After a transfer attempt fell through in January, Chukwueze eventually completed a season-long loan switch from AC Milan to Fulham in September.

Although he has yet to start a Premier League match this season, the Nigerian winger has been utilized several times off the bench, gradually integrating into the squad.

Just prior to the recent international break, Chukwueze registered his first Premier League assist, playing a crucial part in Fulham’s goal during their clash with Bournemouth.

Iwobi Reflects on His Contribution to Chukwueze’s Integration

Iwobi shared that both he and fellow Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey have played significant roles in helping Chukwueze adapt to life at Fulham.

In an interview with SuperSport, Iwobi lauded Chukwueze’s flair and technical skills, describing his style as captivating. “Watching him in action is genuinely exciting; his abilities stand out,” Iwobi remarked.

“Calvin and I have shared the field with him for years. He’s capable of unsettling defenders, crafting chances for others, and scoring himself.”

“Our goal has been to support him in showcasing his talents boldly, and I’m confident he will reach his peak performance here,” Iwobi added.

He also touched on the common pitfall of judging players solely by their statistics. “It’s unfortunate that many overlook his impact because not every opportunity he creates ends in a goal. Observing his overall play reveals how essential he is beyond just the numbers,” Iwobi explained.

During the latest international break, Chukwueze, Iwobi, and Bassey all represented Nigeria, contributing significantly to the Super Eagles‘ 2-1 triumph over Lesotho.
