Victor Boniface is currently facing fitness challenges that cast doubt on his participation in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, creating a significant concern for the Super Eagles attacking lineup.
Currently on loan at Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga, Boniface has struggled to secure a consistent starting position, primarily due to ongoing fitness issues. Werder Bremen’s sporting director, Clemens Fritz, revealed that both the club and the player have identified the root causes and are working closely on a tailored recovery plan.
Fritz explained,
“We have identified the key factors affecting Victor’s performance. Our commitment is to support his rehabilitation through intensified training sessions, targeted physiotherapy, and a personalized nutrition program. Victor is highly motivated and fully involved in this process.”
Boniface was instrumental in Bayer Leverkusen‘s triumphant 2024 league campaign, netting 21 goals and assisting 10 times across 34 matches. Although his performance slightly declined the next season, he still delivered a commendable 11 goals in 27 appearances.
Following Alonso’s summer exit, Boniface’s departure from Leverkusen seemed inevitable. Yet, his anticipated transfer to AC Milan fell through after he failed the medical examination despite initial agreements.
Determined to regain peak condition, Boniface is now concentrating on securing his place in Nigeria’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for December 2025.
